Kabuki was never keen on doing musical repetitions, even if he — as a German dum & bass veteran — is absolutely aware of the fact that it`s impossible to reinvent the (musical) wheel.Instead of trying to do that, the man from Frankfurt produces sounds that are being carried by musical freshness and have nothing to do with those omnipresent humdrum and dimly basses. He always had a preference for elaborated tracks that take effect for more than one season, and this is exactly what his two new tracks will do — with a lot of melody, well-balanced harmonies and a comprehensible rhythm-structure.Side-A, titled “Fever-Pitch”, comes around as as hammering surprise and shows a great deal of Kabuki`s love to the old funk and soul music. The bass is slapping, reminding us of good old Bristol-Breakbeat-Jazz and — because of the seductive vocals — the track sounds like an lasting major hit.On the other side (B), „Lunar Phase” and its electronic toughness forces the hips to rotate while the evolving cold and callous atmosphere recalls great 1997 productions of electronic heroes like Matrix. On this EP, Kabuki hasn`t committed himself to a clearly defined style. He rather uses completely different sentiments on each side and thereby avoids monotonousness. And why should he increase boredom by doing the same thing over and over again. It`s much better to be brilliant at each discipline and to show ones dancefloor-charme in manifold brilliance.
