"Greatest Hits"
From the mind of BRAD LANER (MEDICINE, SAVAGE REPUBLIC, PERSONAL ELECTRONICS)
we bring you electric company's "Greatest Hits", no not a collection of singles people all
want on one cd but a remix album of the highest quality, 18 tracks of inspired remixes and
collaborations of the chosen musician's favorite electric company songs. Trying to reach a
different musical peak through the much maligned and "remix" this album succeeds on const-
antly challenging the notion of a remix as mere namedropping or opportunistic genrecrossing
but as truly inspired artistic transformation through sonically predirected reconstruction's, much
like the collaboration between writer and director in films, the writer provides the plot and
sonic characters, the remixers provide there technique and style, using electric company's
provided ingredients to create something they couldn't create otherwise. KID606 (ipecac, mille
plateaux, tigerbeat6) was given all the individual sound files that created the electric company
"slow food" full length on planet-mu and produces a nine minute widescreen epic out of the mass
of disparate material. TIMEBLIND (orthlorng musork, dropbeat) explodes the melody of 'around'
reconstituting it to his liking, molecule by molecule. GEOFF WHITE (force-inc, cytrax, delay) takes
the haunting found bird and highway recordings of "170" and drives it into a unique glitch-hop
torchsong. LEAFCUTTER JOHN (planet-mu) makes a sprawling musique concret etude from out of
just a few seconds of 'thursa2'. IDM originator -ZIQ (astralwerks,rephlex,planet-mu) creates one
of his most inspired pieces bringing old school magic to the table with his Hyper melodic take on
'octelcogopod'. Electro girl group icons BLECTUM FROM BLECHDOM (tigerbeat6, deluxe,
orthlorng) cherry pick a bunch of sounds from exitos and wrestle them to the mat, tag team style.
World class techno DJ and cytrax label head JASPER (cytrax,force-inc) provides an ass shaking
respite from all of the surrounding cerebral activity. LEXAUNCULPT (isophlux) makes DSP mince-
meat out of brad laner's entire recording career to date, creating a track out of electric company
samples right alongside medicine and amnesia. PIMMON (kraak, fatcat) slows down 'knotted' to a
sickly dub crawl which in turn descends into a grid of treated piano chords. PTHALOCYANINE
(a-musik,planet-mu,plug research, pthalo) secretly raids electric company's website for source
material and turns out a turbulent and woozy sound-seascape reminiscent of aphex twins most
extreme drum n bass workouts. LAFMS veteran TOM RECCHION (birdman) shows us all why he is
the master loopist. bow down. ELECTRIC COMPANY couldn't stand the idea of not being on his own
remix record so he avoids electronic composition altogether for a warm acoustic guitar piece right
before KIM CASCONE (ritornell,raster-noton) grafts the most experimental bits of "exitos" together
in a surprisingly melodic fashion. FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER (mille plateaux,raster-noton,12k)
resources various specks of sonic dust from 'wednes3' and coaxes an almost reggae groove from it.
