Freestyle aficionado and four-time undefeated ABC freestyle rap champion and winner of the Swixx prize 2006 Sky189 from South Africa joins forces with Kafi-D, acclaimed Swiss electronica composer, to form the Freestyle Fan Club (FFC). Combining the unique and artistic qualities of two established hip hop talents from two continents, FFC explores the intersection of technology and music and couples it with positive lyrical content. Under the FFC banner, Sky189 and Kafi-D are two innovative artists who refuse to conform and constantly seek to defy stereotypes through the music they create. With Sky189’s written and freestyle lyrics and an interactive show that relies on audience participation, FFC delivers a live stage performance punctuated by unique, electronic beats accented with live keys by Kafi-D—always arranged on the fly. Drawn to the jazz/funk tradition but firmly rooted in hip hop, Kafi-D played the keyboards and toured with Ilford, Plasmatic Ambient and Sektion Kuchikästli before joining the FFC. A renowned South African graffiti writer, comedian / entertainer Sky189 is a multi-faceted MC who has performed live freestyle shows and hip-hop theatre on three continents. Freestyle Fan Club is the afropean experience bridging cultures through musical artistry and creativity.
